Nanosized drug carrier systems, products of nanotechnology, are of increasing interest to the pharmacetical community. Due to their versatility in targeting tissues and controlling drug release, nanosized drug carrier systems are helping to overcome challenges to face the delivery of drugs. They can also increase the solubility, enhance the bioavailability, decrease side-effects and improve the therapeutic efficacy of drug substances.
This review book covers 9 chapters that written by a leading researchers in the different fields of nanotechnology for drug delivery. The first chapter introduce the basic principles of drug targeting and different targeting strategies with the help of recent studies on pharmaceutical nanotechnology. Different application routes of nanotechnology such as dermal/transdermal, buccal, oral, urogenital, rectal, opthalmic, and nasal delivery are described in Chapter 2-5. In chapter 6 and 7, the various nanotechnology based formulations such as nanoemulsions, polymeric/lipid nanoparticles, vesicular systems, dendrimers and micelles are presented for cancer therapy and cosmetics. The development of nanotechnology for imaging/diagnostic application and gene delivery are also discussed in Chapter 8 and 9.
